Sponsoring World Class Learning On A Local Level

The Virginia Gastroenterological Society is committed to providing educational opportunities for clinicians throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia.  We are proud to announce a new educational initiative providing unrestricted educational grants to enhance the ongoing medical educational experiences of VGS members throughout Virginia. The unrestricted grant is available to VGS members once per calendar year.  The funds may be used to defray the costs of any approved educational activity.

OBJECTIVE

The Society seeks to encourage VGS members in creating local learning events in their own communities.  The VGS Community Education Grant may be used to help defray the costs of honoraria, venue and equipment costs, and dining.

HOW IT WORKS

The program is supported and administered by the Virginia Gastroenterological Society. The VGS Board will be responsible for reviewing and evaluating all grant applications.  Initially, the grant application will be offered to the three GI training programs in Virginia: Virginia Commonwealth University, University of Virginia, and Carilion Clinic (Roanoke). Qualifying institutions will commit to promote the event, recruit participants, and create opportunities for faculty, trainees and community members to interact with the speaker.  The event may be held at the academic medical center or at a venue suitable for a local gut club presentation.  The VGS Educational Grant is unrestricted, and disbursement of the funds shall be at the discretion of the institution.

The VGS will provide an unrestricted grant in an approved amount up to $2,000 to successful applicants approximately 4-6 weeks after initial application.

TO APPLY

Institutions are invited to complete an application form and to submit a one-page letter of interest to the VGS President and Board. The letter should include a statement of need outlining the program’s objectives and how this program will advance local education as well as involve community gastroenterologists.

Please submit applications at least 4 weeks in advance of your event
